Dutch oven cooking camping recipes for warm treats and meals

from:

Dutch oven cooking camping recipes are a great thing to take with you on your upcoming camping trip if you want to have an easy camping menu that will let you prepare tasty meals of all kinds quickly and simply. Dutch oven cooking camping recipes include delicious breakfasts such as egg bakes, hearty dinners such as roasts or stews, and sweet desserts such as cobblers. Dutch ovens allow you to bake while you are at the campground, opening the door for a number of recipes that you would have never dreamed were possible around the campfire. To enjoy dutch oven cooking camping recipes while at your campground, all you need to take with you is your dutch oven, and once you build a campfire you can have a meal in minutes.

While outdoors, most campers miss out on warm, fresh desserts. With a dutch oven, you can prepare after dinner treats to feed a whole group. Following is one of the easiest of the dutch oven cooking camping recipes for a dessert, dump cake. All you need is a medium sized dutch oven and two ingredients.

• Empty 1 can of peaches or other fruit into the bottom of your dutch oven
• Empty 1 box of white cake mix on top of the fruit
• Set your dutch oven on top of hot coals and set more hot coals on top of the lid of the dutch oven
• Cook until cake mix becomes golden brown and forms a crust

When using dutch oven cooking camping recipes, one of the most common mistakes that camp cookers encounter is burning the bottom of their dish. To avoid this, carefully monitor the progress of your food inside the dutch oven. Baking temperatures can be altered by increasing or decreasing the number of heated coals that are underneath and on top of the lid of your dutch oven. Practice is the best way to learn how to maintain the correct baking temperature, and many dutch oven camping cooking recipes will recommend a number of hot coals and a cooking time to be used for that particular dish.

Some of the best dutch oven camping cooking recipes are ones that you can easily alter while at the campground to include what ingredients you have available to you. A dutch oven stew is very versatile, allowing you to add in your favorite vegetables and type of meat. You can include hamburger, sausage, roast, or other type of meat with your vegetables. Some of the best vegetables for stew includes cabbages, carrots, potatoes, onion and celery. For easier preparation, these vegetables can be cut up beforehand and brought to the campsite, or you can use canned vegetables. Your meat should be browned first, then your vegetables added with some water and seasoning of your choice. Stew is great for simmering throughout the day and a hot dish will be waiting for you.
